DR. KATHERINE GORDON TO JOIN BIOTIME'S BOARD OF DIRECTORS
BERKELEY, CA --June 26, 2001--BioTime, Inc. (AMEX:BTX - news) announced today that Dr. Katherine Gordon has been elected to its board of directors. Dr. Gordon is the president of Apollo BioPharmaceutics, Inc., a company founded in 1992 to develop unique products for central nervous system disorders. Apollo has a strategic alliance with American Home Products Corp. for estrogen treatment in Alzheimer's Disease.
``My selection as a member of BioTime's board of directors allows me greater participation in a company whose current emphasis on critical care and geriatric medicine closely matches my own interests in these fields,'' said Dr. Gordon.

Prior to 1992, Dr. Gordon was an Associate Director of Genzyme Corporation, where she launched a business unit which derives therapeutic proteins, such as ``clot buster'' drugs for heart patients, from the milk of transgenic animals (animals to which particular genes have been transferred). In 1993, this department was spun off from Genzyme as a free-standing company known as Genzyme Transgenics Corporation (listed on the Nasdaq National Market as GZTC). Dr. Gordon was at Integrated Genetics (acquired by Genzyme) and Genzyme from 1984 to 1991. She has 20 years of experience in mammalian genetics/molecular biology, a field in which she is a noted pioneer in human gene transfer. She has numerous peer-reviewed publications and issued patents to her credit.
